  2. Nov 07,  · Okay, so any deluxe reissue has to be split into two parts - the original album and the bonus materials. Wowee Zowee was Pavement's third record, coming just a year after their hilariously brief brush with success in Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain was far from streamlined, but it was a lot cleaner than both Slanted And Enchanted, and Wowee Zowee/5(36).
  3. This album is full of the goofy, tuneless garbage that most people think of when they think of 'indie'. I think when metalheads hear an emo album, they hear what I hear when I listen to Wowee Zowee, if that makes sense: a jumble of unfamiliar nonsense played in a way that makes me want to hunt down those involved and yell at them.

  5. With its vast array of musical styles, Wowee Zowee isn't as accessible as Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain or as immediate as the bracing, noisy pop of Slanted & Enchanted. Pavement never abandon their warped pop aesthetic, they simply expand it, incorporating elements of folk-rock, English music hall, soul, jazz, country, as well as adding asides to such contemporaries as Suede ("We Dance"), Ween.

  8. Slanted and Enchanted was Lo-fi and really influential in the Indie Rock scene. Crooked Rain was the genre defining album of the 90's. But Wowee Zowee is something different. Some songs sound distinctly Lo-fi, like Half a Canyon. Some sound like they could belong on Crooked Rain. But a lot of the songs sound really unique for Pavement.
